Me and my art philosophy

I work with aquatinta as my printing technique because it suits my expression all the while using black color. When working on a piece it acquires its final look through several different stages in a long printing process. You aren’t able to see the final product straight away, and it helps me get to a more emancipated final look where coincidences and "accidents" play their part in the print at hand.

My images are built from my own "meaningful positions", by varying and repeating the positioning of the figures. There might be a resemblance with calligraphy along with ancient rock-paintings. With my signs I want to portray a person alone, together with others and at the same time wanting to get closer or away, struggling for his own space or participating in carrying common burdens, a person just going along with a flow of events.

I reckon my exemplars are expressive artists. In my own work I’m going towards the expressivity of the arm and hand. For this, aquatinta and dry point offer good possibilities. The black and white coloring of my work is strong in its expressivity, but lift ground aquatinta does not give a dead black surface but one that is vibrant and airy.

My latest work consists of wood cuts that are reliefs consisting of the same shapes and figures as in my print work. I’ve also made concrete reliefs that are cast in molds dug in the ground.

What I want to express

In the stone age figures and marks were made on rock walls where the same theme was repeated for increased effect. The images were closely related to the way of life and survival back then, images of hunting and prey, birds and fish, fertility figures. In a way I see my own images as this kind of rock-paintings, in them I go through an inner dialogue, and sending a message. These images are my way of thinking. What I want to express is that figure, that group formation.

My survival does not depend on hunting, but instead I depend on others whom I’m forced to affect in order to survive. In my work you can see a figure crouched in a forest resembling some creature or a person, maybe a plant. I also portray groups and formations of people.

Networks of plants, animals or humans are positioned in different entities in my work. You can recognize a head, a body and limbs. When I make an image I keep in my mind that I want send out a message and make an impact. The impact is in the image itself, the shape, the rhythm, the harmony and the pleasantness of the image.
